"An observant child should be put in the way of things worth observing."
~ Charlotte Mason.

One day I'll show you a picture of my collection of nature study books. It surpasses any other section of our home library, because I love it that much. Recently, I reorganized my books and came across one book about the Egyptians. One. I know that one day I'll need to review this particular time period but I just don't find it that fascinating. Not like creation.

So we keep it simple. :)

I have this tray that I set out once the girls and I return from our nature walks for them to place their "treasures" on.

From twigs to lichen, shells and dead wasps, I allow the girls to observe and touch.

Nature Study is never complicated here, however, it's a common everyday observance.
By teaching the children to draw near to Creation, they'll draw near to the Creator.

But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;    the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;    and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know    that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing    and the breath of all mankind. Job 12:7-10

The sense of beauty comes from early contact with nature.
